Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We are a fairly large and busy DGH, with lots of areas of sub-specialty interests, including Airway, Regional, Vascular, CPET. We have a busy Obstetric unit, which provides a great introduction to Obstetric anaesthesia for novices. There is ample opportunity to gain clinical experience in a wide variety of disciplines, and get involved in local and national QI projects. We run a successful and well received National Primary FRCA course.
Permanent staff include approximately 50 Consultants, and 7 SAS doctors.
The hospital itself has a large footprint, with theatre complexes that are multi-site:
6 Main Theatres
4 Trauma and Orthopaedic theatres
3 DSU Theatres
2 Gynae Theatres
2 Labour ward Suite Theatres<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous DAS Airway Professor Chris Frerk continues his clinical work as well as interest in Human Factors, and Dr Jonny Wilkinson is moving and shaking the world of Regional Anaesthesia, POCUS and ITU. Dr Jeremy Stone is both our Head of Service and an experienced FRCA examiner, Dr Paul Slater provides an invaluable service in helping patients overcome their anxiety through leading the hypnosis service. Dr Jon Birks has a shared job planning, is also PHEM training lead in Wales, and Dr Susan Williams continues to be a TIVA diva, as a Committee Member of the SIVA.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Helen Cronshaw continues to receive well deserved accolade for the award-winning teaching programme that she runs on the ITU. Dr Nicky Hames uses her wealth of experience as previous Deputy Director of Medical Education and interest in Human Factors in her role as Teaching Lead.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
