Your ICM Training
Onboarding
The regional advisor and TPD will discuss your needs and assess your prior experience. We will work with you to make a bespoke programme to meet the ICM Stage 1 Requirements, either following single, dual, or triple accreditation with partner specialties
Stage 1 – developing core knowledge and skills
During Stage 1, you will follow a bespoke programme to allow you to meet the ICM Stage 1 requirements.
Stage 2 – specialty year – finding your niche
During Stage 2, you will complete the ICM subspecialties – 3 months each in
- Cardiac ICM
- Neuro ICM
- Paediatric ICM
- General ICM
Following this, a year in a Special Interest Area (or partner specialty for dual/triple accreditation)
The FICM must be completed during Stage 2 in full
Stage 3 – preparing to be a consultant
During Stage 3, you will complete 1 year of intensive care, spending time both in large teaching hospitals, and district general hospitals to give a breadth of experience in different units. This is combined with a special interest, or partner specialty.
